Sandra Bullock Invited To Discuss Child Custody

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock

Janine Lindemulder said that she wants to resolve the custody dispute with ex-husband Jesse James and his wife Sandra Bullock over daughter Sunny in an amicable way. James received temporary full custody of Sunny earlier this year, when Lindemulder, a porn star, had to serve a six-month jail sentence for tax evasion. Recently released, Lindemulder intends to regain the previous custody agreement, but James and Bullock are now seeking permanent full custody of 5 year old Sunny.

Lindemulder’s request as well as the filing of James/Bullock are justified as at least a parenting plan and possibly child custody is subject to change when circumstances change, which is certainly the case here. Lindemulder has weakened her positioned through her stay in jail as well as her profession and substance abuse and James/Bullock are going after where she is especially vulnerable.

in a statement to court, James said that his daughter may not be safe with his ex-wife. He asked the court that Lindemulder should be “restrained from allowing the child around pornographers, drug addicts, guns and firearms, felons and other unsafe environments. […] Good cause exists for the court to conduct a review to determine if [the girl] will be safe with [Lindemulder].”

There is no doubt that this filing targets an entirely new child custody evaluation Lindemulder and James/Bullock and especially Sunny almost certainly will have to endure. The filing aims at what child custody evaluators typically describe as “risky family characteristics” and “emotion processing” as well as substance abuse and “risky sexual behavior”. Child custody evaluations always look at environments that have an adverse affect on prosocial behavior as well as an environment that would support the early development of generally accepted complex social skills, which includes the ability to build and maintain healthy relationships.

Lindemulder’s work as a porn actress and director could be seen as a potentially damaging environment for Sunny to develop those social skills. If James and Bullock go ahead with their claims, an evaluator will more than likely assess the level of the actual risk through specific screenings and tests. Ultimately, Lindemulder will have to show that she is a competent parent who is a caring adult capable of carrying the responsibility of a shared parenting agreement again.

It appears that Lindemulder may not want to go into a custody battle or believes that her chances aren’t that great for regaining shared custody. She recently called for a meeting with Bullock to talk about her daughter.

According to the Seattle Post Intelligencer, Lindemulder said that she is “a changed woman, and she is being unfairly portrayed by her ex and his wife.” While she complained that she was unfairly targeted, she would want to sit down with Bullock and talk so the two can get to know each other.

“What would give her (Bullock) the right to take away my daughter?” she is quoted saying. “This is my daughter! I’ve absolutely made horrific choices (regarding drugs) in the past. […] Sandra doesn’t know what goes on in my house, (but) please, come over, I’d love to sit down… two women. I do believe Sandra is so interested in Sunny (because) she (thinks she) is saving Sunny from me, from her own mother. That’s what I believe.”

Lindemulder continued: “It hurts tremendously, the accusations. Especially from Sandra, even moreso because we’ve never sat down and talked. That’s the one thing I wish (to) remedy more than anything. Just communication.”

There was no information whether Bullock will accept the invitation to talk.
