Jon Gosselin announces $5 million suit

jongosselin2Facing a rather uncertain future on TV, Jon Gosselin announced that he will be filing a $5 million lawsuit against TLC that is likely going after a contract that he considers as too restrictive to enable him to make a living. Meanwhile, it seems that TLC is positioning its artillery for a lawsuit that is designed to reveal business and family secrets. Somehow, we feel it is already clear who will lose.

You could have seen this one coming. Of course, Jon Gosselin needs to countersue TLC if he is unable to settle with TLC. And we should have known that this announcement was made in public, not in court, and apparently without proper legal representation for the reality TV star.

Gosselin announced earlier today in a conversation with Radar Online that he plans to sue TLC for $5 million. The magazine reported that his current lawyers have no license for Maryland and therefore cannot sue or defend him in Maryland. Apparently, Gosselin has no legal counsel for Maryland, where he will have to appear in front of court on December 14 to face a preliminary injunction that accuses him of breach of contract.

There was no information why Gosselin will sue for $5 million, but common sense suggests that he will argue that his contract is too restrictive and does not allow him to earn a living, at least not from TV appearances. TLC claims that Jon has breached his contract of exclusivity with TLC on numerous occasions and that he has been paid by several media outlets for promotional appearances that were explicitly prohibited by the contract.

TLC is building its case with a list of witnesses that includes former girlfriend Kate Major, former girlfriend Hailey Glassman, his bodyguard Thomas Meinelt, his laywers Mike and Mark Heller and Michael Lohan.

There is no doubt that Jon Gosselin will be facing a storm that only adds to the current turmoil of his divorce. No matter of the outcome, his children will lose. One can only hope that this feeding frenzy will be over soon, in the interest of the children. TLC suggested that Jon is free to return to his former Jon in information technology, which may not be such a bad idea. If he can find a job, of course.
