Shaquille O’Neal’s wife Va’Shaundya (Shaunie) has filed papers for legal separation citing irreconcilable differences. Shaunie has requested residential and physical custody of the four children as well as spousal support.
It is the second time there is a separation filing between Shaq and Shaunie – the first time was in September 2007, when Shaq filed for divorce. A few months later, the couple decided to withdraw the filing.
This time, Shaunie has moved with the four kids (3 to 9 in age) to California and has filed for divorce in Los Angeles, despite the fact that she was considered a resident of Florida until recently. Media reports suggest that Shaunie may count on California courts to award her custody of the children as well spousal support.
The filing does not indicate a specific amount Shaunie is looking for, but does request a denial of spousal support to Shaq, physical and legal custody of the children to Shaunie, visitation rights to Shaq, and legal fees to be paid by Shaq.
Shaq and Shaunie were married on December 26, 2002.
