Why Teens Need Dads
SingleDadLife has an inspirational article on the relationship between teens and their dads. Especially in single parent environments, the role of the father may appear to be much more complex and difficult to fulfill. Author Ben Murphy has some food for thought for moms and dads.
“As the teenage years progress, there are times that your child will open up and share things with you, and times that they won’t – even if you have a great relationship,” Murphy writes. “Perhaps it’s helpful to understand why teens need their fathers, and what you can do to deepen that relationship.”
According to Murphy, fathers are a boy’s role model how or how not to be a man and a girl’s benchmark how they should be treated. Time spent with your teen is important and he advises to welcome your teen’s friends, ask questions they may be on their mind and let your teen make some choices.
Just yesterday we learned that there are currently 13.7 million custodial parents in the U.S., who take care of about 21.8 million children. 82.6% of those custodial parents are moms and 17.4% are dads. While there was no answer how many dads are available to those children who live with their custodial moms, it has been shown that a caring father is beneficial to the well being of a child.
Murphy’s article is an inspiring reminder of a dad’s role for single moms and single dads, whether they work well together or not, and even moms and dads who are married.
