Sarah Palin Was ‘Shocked’ About Bristol’s Pregnancy
In a week you surely will not be able to avoid any Sarah Palin news on the Internet, newspapers and on the TV – the former vice presidential candidate is promoting her book Going Rogue across the nation – we are told we are hearing lots of honest words from her. And who would be surprised to hear that the Palins were not too excited to hear that daughter Bristol, then a high school senior, was pregnant during the campaign.
“Truthfully, we were devastated,” Palin said during an interview with Barbara Walters that will air as a five-part series beginning Tuesday on ABC News. The preview does not reveal much, but her reaction to the question whether she knew that her then 17-year old daughter was sexually active as “no, that is why it was shocking” indicates that there might have been serious conversations, but the family is now handling the situation just fine (that is, of course, if we leave a possible custody fight out of consideration for a moment.)
The pregnancy was announced in September 2008, and McCain was visibly shaken by the news, but calmed concerns rather quickly. Bristol, now 19, gave birth to son Tripp in December.
The entire interview will be shown on Friday on “20/20″.
