Jon & Kate Plus 8 Ends Emotionally, Peacefully

It isn’t quite the happy ending some would have wanted to see, but it isn’t the disaster most of us would have expected. Jon & Kate Plus 8 concluded yesterday on an emotional note, setting the stage for what may be peaceful dissolution of the Gosselin’s marriage.
Given the fights we have seen over the past weeks, the conclusion of Jon & Kate Plus 8 was somewhat surprising. Jon, who has been criticized to have made rather bad choices following the separation from Kate, admitted that he “took advantage” of his opportunity to behave immaturely. But he stated that he is “moving forward.” He said he knows what to do: “To become friends with Kate. To continue my relationship with Hailey [Glassman].”
He clearly separated the two homes he has – his “work” place in New York and his “country” home in Wernersville, Pennsylvania. With Hailey in his life, it seems he is taking steps to moving on, while Kate still deals with the effects of the separation from Jon and a certain fear of being alone: “Don’t kid yourself,” she quips. “When I’m driving to get school supplies with the kids or try on shoes . . . it always crosses my mind that I should be in the passenger seat and Jon should be driving,” she said.
“To clarify, maybe I wanted roles to change and for people to step up and stress loads to shift. I never wanted him absent from that driver’s seat.” Is there a foundation for reconciliation?
Kate may be thinking about such an effort: “I never had a clear picture of how it would end. It’s too soon,” she says softly. The conclusion of the series, she says, is “useless, pointless, totally avoidable.”
It would take two, and Jon appears not to be motivated to reconcile.
“It’s unfortunate that our marriage failed, but our family shouldn’t fail. We’re gonna have to strive to be the best parents we can whether we’re married or not. We’re definitely not gonna be married again.”
Kate, however, was also very unhappy about the ending of the show in particular: “I feel like it’s been taken from us, from me and the kids,” she said.
Yesterday, we learned that the Gosselin’s marriage could be finalized by the end of this year.
