Tiger Woods: 13 Mistresses, 3 Crushed Lives, 1 Sad Story

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods today announced that he will be taking an indefinite break from golf, after he had received an ultimatum from his wife, to do his “best” to repair his marriage to “become a better husband, father, and person.” Of course, common sense raises the question what may be left to repair in Woods’ private life given the colossal deception he engaged in.

Woods’ statement reads like an apology for receiving a speeding ticket.

“I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I’ve done, but I want to do my best to try.

I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. What’s most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing.

After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person.

Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for all those who have offered compassion and concern during this difficult period.”

It always amazes me how common infidelity these days is and how much it is accepted as a sorry-I-just-couldn’t-help-sleeping-with-someone-else accident by those who commit adultery. Woods actions are exposing his wife to unimaginable emotional pain and today’s all-business-like statement sounds like a slap in the face of his family. His family and wife need a bit more than a safe haven for personal healing Woods needs to be more than a “better husband, father, and person.” He needs to understand the responsibility and promise he has given as a husband and father. My prayers are with Elin and the two kids whose lives have been crushed by Woods’ irresponsible actions.

The price Woods will have to pay for choosing a life next to his family is slowly unfolding. It already has cost Woods his reputation, advertisers that were believed to have paid about $100 million per year to Woods, including Gatorade, GM, Gilette and Tag Heuer, are retreating. Now it seems that the affairs may cost Woods his career and it will be seen whether they will cost him his family.Perhaps he should check in with David Letterman.

Woods married Elin Nordegren, a former Swedish model and daughter of former minister of migration Barbro Holmberg and radio journalist Thomas Nordegren, in October 2004. Tiger and Elin have two children, Sam Alexis, born in June 2007, and Charlie Axel, born in February 2009.

Credit where credijenniferarmstrong@rediffmail.comt is due? No way, Tiger stayed silent for too long and hasn't apologized properly yet for what he has done. His family can forgive but not forget the damage he has done.

Tiger used the word 'infidelity' in his latest statement. I guess this is his way of coming clean. But credit where credit is due, Tiger has taken the blame and says he wants to be a better father and husband. But, as sports blogs on www.Dozensports.com ask, is it now too late?
