The Tiger That has Turned Into a Lone Wolf

lonelyTiger Woods had fun, but there’s a tough time ahead. And it seems that after all the attention he received from, as of now, 14 mistresses, he seems to be adjusting, not quite voluntarily, to have time for himself. Even if he is unlikely to become the single dad who has to deal with many personal problems just on his own, he is now facing what is a much more isolated life than before.

Tiger Woods’ actions and his name are an invitation for media and bloggers for wordplays and I can’t quite remember such creativity in 14 years of journalism. We had, for example, the woodsmeister, the tiger den, the cougar who taught the tiger and we now have the tiger that has turned into a lone wolf. All of them probably some truth, especially Fox News’ metaphor of a lone wolf.

According to Fox News, Woods isn’t much in demand right now, at least not by his close environment. In contrast to his public life before, he is now spending his days in seclusion, eating cereal and watching cartoons on the TV. At night, he is reportedly hitting gold balls. You could feel terrible for the golfer, but I have a hard time feeling sorry for someone who destroyed his marriage with 14 affairs and broke his most important promises to his children and his wife.

What is somewhat surprising (or not, depending on your view), is that even Wood’s mother is, for now, somewhat distant to her son. People magazine reports that Kultilda Woods is “furious” with her son. “[She] is hurt, angry and disappointed in Tiger,” a friend told the magazine. “She wants to know how he could do this to his family.” There was no information whether Kultilda is in contact with her son.

She is not the only one who is asking that question. Elin Nordegren has probably asked this question as well. Neither Kutilda nor Elin may ever get an answer that makes much sense and in a few months, when the pain subsides, it may not even matter anymore – at least not until the time Tiger Woods’ kids will ask that question.

Christmas surely will be different for Woods this year and while he will have plenty of time to think about his past and his future. According to reports, he is staying with a friend and will be spending the holidays on his 135-foot yacht. A source told People magazine that Woods is “devastated about everything he has lost.”

“He’ll go through some dark times. It’s going to be a lonely Christmas for him.”

Ummm … Should he have thought about this before? Do we really need to feel sorry for Tiger? Perhaps it is time for him not to distance himself from his familiar environment. These are the days a family can lend the support to figure out how he can be the (single) dad his children will need.
