Weekend Fun That Won’t Break Your Bank #2: Go Ghost Hunting!
With Halloween ante portas, what weekend fun tip would you expect? Of course, we would suggest something scary: There is a wealth of information about haunted places in the United States on the Internet, some of which are enticing enough to be explored.
You really don’t need to do much more than open your web browser, select one of the many haunted places websites and pick a few haunted places in your area. If you haven’t looked into this topic before, I am sure you will be surprised how many of those locations might be close to you.
Which Internet resource you pick is a matter of personal taste, but we found the most interesting ones to be Shadowlands and Haunted Houses. Depending on how you excited are about this topic, you may also spend $20 on the Encyclopedia of Haunted Places, a 360-page book from Ghostvillage.com founder Jeff Belanger (the first edition sells for $9.99; the second edition is out soon for $19.99.)
There aren’t really all haunted places that claim to be haunted included in this book, but there are enough to keep you and your children occupied for a weekend. What is nice about this book is that it provides background stories that make an investigation of a haunted place much more interesting, if you do not want to spend the extra time on the Internet. You can order the book here:
Before you leave for a haunted place, make sure you have plenty of research done to support your story. And, of course, we can’t guarantee that you will or will not encounter a real ghost. All we can say is that we did not meet those ghosts that are apparently present at locations in Illinois we have visited so far. But the simple notion of described encounters in somewhat strange locations make ghost haunting a nice idea for Halloween. Enjoy!
