David Letterman
What would we do without celebrity gossip on the weekend? It makes you feel so much better about your own life. Today we learned that Letterman’s decision to publicly admit that he had inappropriate encounters with multiple women on his staff is getting more interesting as his wife Regina reportedly “humiliated” (Duh!) and wants a divorce. The National Enquirer claims that she is expecting Dave to shell out $300 million.
Oh, and there is a new story in the Jon and Kate Gosselin story as well. Jon now claims Kate is hiding $1 million.
Don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for David Letterman. There are few other journalists alive that can combine thorough interviewing with an entertaining element. But I have zero tolerance for his decision to engage sexually with women on his staff, no matter how funny he made that sound in his monologue.
The obvious question was, of course, how would his wife handle this matter? Would she follow Hillary Clinton or would she file for divorce? Apparently, she was humiliated enough (well, can you humiliate your wife much more than revealing your infidelity to millions of people on TV?)? The National Enquirer reports that Regina is going to cash in and is aiming for about $300 million. Other reports put the number at $200 million.
Letterman may be in for a rough ride as New York State does not offer a no-fault basis for divorce. Typically, adultery is a tough one to prove without getting in hot water, but that there is little doubt in Letterman’s case. Regina can get the legal separation and a decent payout with her eyes closed.
In another episode of the Gosselin drama, Jon Gosselin shot back at Kate’s claim that he emptied the joint checking account with a $230,000 withdrawal. He admitted to have taken $177,000 as a paycheck from the reality show income of $2,250,000. However, he also filed court papers stating that Kate made unauthorized withdrawals. He also claims that Kate is hiding more than $1 million she made from her best-selling book. He now says that she should be required to pay $7500 for each month that she failed to deposit that amount; and be required to give a complete accounting of all the money she spent in the last 60 days.
In the meantime, Kate has filed for child and spousal support.
