Update: Jon Gosselin Returns $180,000, Kate’s $55,000 still missing
Jon Gosselin’s lawyer today said that his client has returned $180,000 to the joint checking account and is now in full compliance with a previous court order. Kate has still to provide information how she spent $55,000 in the past weeks. That information has to be filed also today.
If Kate Gosselin misses the date, she will have to go through contempt proceedings next Monday, as both Jon and Kate have filed contempt motions against each other for allegedly violating a divorce arbitrator’s guidelines for how the money from a joint account should be spent.
Jon Gosselin was ordered to return $180,000 to the account on October 13. Previously, Kate had stated that he had taken about $230,000. Later in the week, Gosselin admitted that the amount was closer to $155,000. “It was just after arbitration and we weren’t supposed to take money out of the restricted account and we both did,” he told ET. “I was found in contempt for doing so. I didn’t realize, I thought I was just taking my paycheck out.”
Update 8:22 PM EDT: Apparently, the story wasn’t quite so simple. Kate Gosselin’s attorney Mark Momjian claims that she has complied with the court order and has provided the necessary accounting to show where those $55,000 went. Momjian also said that while Jon Gosselin’s attorney stated that he had received $151,500 from Gosselin (in addition to $28,500 that was returned last week), the funds are not in the joint checking account yet. There remains quite a bit of confusion who has complied with the court order and who has not. What is confirmed, however, is that both Jon and Kate will have to be in court on Monday morning for another arbitrator’s conference.
