Dividing the Finances

Postby brian » Wed Oct 21, 2009 5:13 pm

I am wondering if all the money that I earned while my soon-to-be ex-wife and I were married must be divided 50/50 as part of the divorce? I always thought that is has to be, but there are others telling me that this is not necessarily the case. I earned at least 80% of the money that is in the savings account now. I am not trying to get out of giving her her fair share, but I am just considering my options. Any advice??

I don't know for sure, but I am under the impression that the checking/savings accounts are divided 50/50. Have you spoken with a lawyer? I know most lawyers will provide a free consultation. I know it sounds a little sneaky but you could always consult with a lawyer, even if you don't intend to hire them, and ask that question......
