It is official: Jon and Kate Gosselin are officially divorced. A Pennyslvania judge issued a final decree of divorce this morning.

Ending the drama of the past weeks, the Gosselin’s are now single parents and can go separate ways.

It isn’t quite the happy ending some would have wanted to see, but it isn’t the disaster most of us would have expected. Jon & Kate Plus 8 concluded yesterday on an emotional note, setting the stage for what may be peaceful dissolution of the Gosselin’s marriage.

The final episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 will air tonight on TLC at 9pm EDT. Ironically, the end of the show is also, as it seems, close to the end of the couple’s marriage as the divorce could be finalized by the end of year, Jon Gosselin’s attorney said.

Sometimes, life takes unexpected turns. If you will be watching Kate tonight taking her children to a dairy farm and Jon taking them to a firehouse, you are not only seeing the final episode of Jon & Kate on TV. It may also, symbolically, conclude their marriage. Well, sort of.

What a dramatic headline that is. Don’t we all suffer at least a little bit from cellphone addiction? Well, celebrity divorcing single dad Jon Gosselin is somewhat different as his life is caught on camera and especially his not so great decisions are amplified by national finger pointing enabled by Jon & Kate Plus 8. But even then it is common sense to understand that texting has taken over too much of our lives and it isn’t as important as paying attention to your children.

Listening to Kate Gosselin in yet another TV Special – no one will ever be able to say that she has violated her contract with TLC – has probably made many people think: What has happened to Jon and Kate? First we listen to Jon talking about his spiritual self and a newly found focus on the children and now it is Kate who feels sorry for things she has done and expresses that, in some way, she may always love Jon. Well. At least the memories they shared. There was also the Kate that we have seen in the past weeks, but we wonder whether Jon and Kate have finally found the right path?

This question has been on my mind for some time and after today’s airing of the Ellen DeGeneres I’d like to ask for some thoughts. Do we have to feel sorry for the rough time Kate Gosselin is going through? Or should she just grow up and deal with the life she has chosen?

Any single parent knows that life can be tough and mean. For some, single parenthood has been a freight train with no lights barreling down a dark tunnel, hitting with full speed. Divorces bring dramatic experiences and often unimaginable emotional and economic pain that can destroy lives for years and often even decades to come. It is apparent that Kate has not seen separation pain yet, at least not if she believes her priority is marketing herself in TV shows and if she is concerned when she can get that next diamond ring.

If you have seen yesterday’s Kate Gosselin TLC special and you actually watched the entire episode, then you are either a hardcore Kate supporter or you are among those who can get excited when watching toothpaste commercials. But if you did not know it before, you surely know it now: Kate Gosselin is in love, has been in love and never was out of love.

Love, of course, really depends on your view. And I am not talking about her trainwreck husband Jon. I am talking about the camera. Yesterday’s special was a testimony how much she enjoys being in the spotlight and we now even know that she feels ready to be in a movie. Umm, Kate, what about getting your family off the camera and in order first? Just a thought.

Jon Gosselin’s lawyer today said that his client has returned $180,000 to the joint checking account and is now in full compliance with a previous court order. Kate has still to provide information how she spent $55,000 in the past weeks. That information has to be filed also today.

It is a disaster you know is coming: Kate Gosselin has agreed to a TLC Special “You Ask, Kate Answers” that will replace a regular episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8 next week. And we wonder what viewers, who can submit questions via the TLC blog, might be really interested in, which questions will be released in the interest of ratings and which will be released in the interest of the children. If you think about it, this episode could very likely turn into a disaster, either for TLC or for the Gosselin’s children.
